At the beginning of the second week

At the beginning of the second week of the PCO we are moving toward the conclusion of the listening stage. Today we have heard Fr. Felice Accrocca on work in the Franciscan sources, work that consisted essentially of preaching, of prayer, and of manual work. The challenge is to reach a fertile synthesis of these three dimensions. Br. Joaquim Hangalo (director of IT in the General Curia) presented to us on the revolutionary digital forms of communication, which are never neutral forms in that they form our culture and seem to be at the heart of society. Pio Murat, General Councilor, also presented a synthetic summary on work in the preceding PCOs, in the renewed Constitutions, and in various letters of the General Ministers. We have before us a great challenge and a responsibility: to tell the friars something new and inspired regarding the grace of working.

Br. Michael Fernandes, OFMCap presents Fr. Felice Accrocca

I am so pleased to be standing here and to have the chance to introduce our guest speaker, Don Felice Accrocca.

He is very much connected and associated with the Capuchins for a long time, especially with our Historical Institute here in the college. He has been one of the main proponents of Franciscan spirituality and history for several years. He has a great understanding of the Franciscan spirituality and Capuchin Life and a great appreciation of what it takes to truly make a Franciscan. What I learned about him is that he is also just a fascinating person and we are all in for a treat this morning. Rev. Felice Accrocca (Latina) – is a priest of the diocese of Latina-Terracina-Sezze-Priverno, episcopal vicar for pastoral care and pastor in Latina. He is a scholar of medieval history and teaches in the faculty of history and cultural goods of the Church in the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome as well as in the Theological Institute in Assisi. He is the author of numerous books and essays on Francis and Clare of Assisi and on medieval Franciscanism.

Among many recent books we know a very popular book called Un Santo di Carta, Le fonti biografiche di san Francesco e la Chiesa Romana, La Scelta del Vangelo e la codificazione perdonare. Verita e misericordia nell insegnamento di Francesco d'Assisi. Besides he along with Br. Aleksander Horowski, have brought out a new critical edition of Thomas of Celano.

His talk will focus on work in the primitive Franciscan fraternity as a fruit of evangelical inspiration.
