II Ordinary Assembly of the Capuchin Conference of Hispanic America

The II Ordinary Assembly of the Capuchin Conference of Hispanic America (CCHA) was held from February 27 to March 3, 2023. This Conference brings together the Major Superiors of 21 Spanish-speaking countries throughout the Americas.

The friars gathered in Santo Domingo and experienced days of authentic Franciscan fraternity. They were accompanied by the presidents of the North American Capuchin Conference (NAPCC) and the Capuchin Conference of Brazil (CCB) and by the Vicar General of the Order, Br. José Ángel Torres. Guided by the Holy Spirit, they reflected on the variety of Capuchin presences as they stand currently. In addition, they took time to explore the conclusions of the 1st Pan-American meeting, which prompted new perspectives on how to perceive our vocation.

At the meeting, the various secretariats of the Conference – Mission, Formation, JPIC and Communications – also shared about their activities, with the aim of enhancing our work of serving the Church and proclaiming the Gospel.

Considering possible paths of collaboration in the Americas, the issue of initial formation was explored, and new strategies for vocation ministry were examined with the help of Br. Edison Capellán. Initial formation and vocation ministry are strong points that motivate us to continue giving true witness to our charism.

Finally, the friars thanked God for their time together, which proved to be a breath of life for the Capuchins of this area; they asked Him, the Highest Good, for the grace to bring to bear all that has been prayed for and reflected upon at this assembly.
